Hole in Your Heart
Words and Music © 2006 Torey Adler

Tiger, Tiger burning bright
desperado in the night
you're changing all the time
a chunk of lead inside your heart
but that's when living really starts
the rest of us are dying all the time
Do you know my poetry? you said,
and then you shot him, left him bleeding on the ground
there's a fire inside your head
you are unstoppable, you are the real thing now

But there's a hole in your heart
where I used to be
if there was anything kept you human it was me
there is a hole in your heart
you can see it from across the street
you're in the air, you've been blown apart
you're everywhere but there's a hole in your heart

Nobody came to ease your mind
all your connections left behind
you rode that engine straight to hell
Now there is no day or night
Now there is no wrong or right
you only started standing when you fell
Do you know my poetry? You said,
and then you pulled the trigger, wrote the last line out in lead
there's no-one left; you are alone
where the river meets the ocean you will find your home

But there's a hole in your heart
where I used to be
if there was anything kept you human it was me
there is a hole in your heart
you can see it from across the street
you're in the air, you've been blown apart
you're everywhere but there's a hole in your heart
